NGCP warned Widespread power outage in some parts of the Visayas

It will take a while before the power supply is restored in some Visayas areas. 

Because of magnitude 6.5 earthquake on Thursday in the towns of Kananga and Ormoc City, it was also felt at a large part of the city.

At present, power supplies in Bohol, Samar, Biliran, Southern Leyte and other parts of Leyte have yet to be restored. 

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) claims that they had to shut down the Leyte plant to be subject to damage assessment.

Operation of Unified Leyte Geothermal Power generating units operated by Energy Development Corporation and sources of 600 megawatts of electricity in the province.

The NGCP is looking forward to reconnecting the Kananga Switchyard before Ormoc-Tongonan line power supply is the power source of the province of Ormoc. 

According to the Department of Energy estimates, it may take up to one to two weeks before the power service is restored to those affected by the quake.
