President Duterte announced the suspension of peace talks as long as the New People's Army (NPA) did not stop their offensives against the government.
But according to Fidel Agcaoili, the NDFP peace panel chair, they are still committed to promoting the peace process despite the occurrence of the ground.
Agcaoili's justification, they did not withdraw from peace talks even though government troops also attacked the rebels.
He specifically mentioned the killing of six NPA members and two civilians in Compostela Valley on July 12, including the massacre of a family in the area just days ago, which the military denied.
Because of this, Agcaoili said the government was eager to stop the peace talks, which reached the point that they were using a superficial reason for canceling backchannel talks.
