House committee on good government and public accountability on Monday showed to the media the two proposed detention chambers for Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.
MANILA, Philippines — After issuing a subpoena for Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability on Monday showed the media where she might be detained if she fails to honor the summons.
Marcos skipped the past four hearings into the alleged misuse of P66.5 million in tobacco excise tax funds released to the provincial government for projects to help tobacco farmers. She was repeatedly asked to attend the hearings and explain her knowledge of the alleged anomaly.
The House panel said if Marcos fails to attend the next hearing on July 25, she will be detained by the House of Representatives for contempt.
Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel, panel chair, and House Sergeant-at-Arms Roland Detabali showed the media the detention area prepared for Marcos, a room of around 80 square meters detention.
The proposed detention area is an extension office of the House sergeant-at-arms on the third floor of the Batasan Pambansa's main building.
Pimentel said Marcos will still be allowed to work while detained as she will be allowed to use her gadgets and will be granted internet access. The air-conditioned room has an office area, a reception area with a television, and even a private bathroom.
It also has a metal bed prepared for Marcos.
