Ombudsman pursuing witch hunt vs ex-VP’s family

The camp of former Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay is not surprised at the recent indictment of him and his son, dismissed Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr., on graft charges.

Joey Salgado, spokesperson for the former vice president, said the allegations against the Binays have already been answered but that was “apparently disregarded by the Ombudsman.”
“The Ombudsman has time and again disregarded her agency's internal rules, due process, and Constitutional rights to pursue her witch hunt against former VP Binay and his family,” Salgado said in a statement.
“It once again underscores the selective prosecution of the Binays and the Ombudsman's tendency to look the other way when other political personalities are involved,” he added.
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has ordered filing of multiple counts of graft and falsification against the Binays in two separate resolutions approved last Tuesday. The charges are in connection with the P1.3 billion Makati Science High School building project.
Aside from the Makati Science building deal, the Binays were also accused of graft and plunder in over the alleged overpriced construction of Makati City Hall Building II.
Salgado said he is positive that the Binays are not guilty of the  charges they are facing.
“Former VP Jojo Binay and former [Mayor] Junjun are confident that in a fair and impartial trial, they will be able to clear their names and dispute the baseless charges of patently biased Ombudsman,” Salgado said.
