President Rodrigo Duterte to tighten ties of Philippines with Japan


President Rodrigo Duterte and his delegates flew to Japan yesterday, October 24 for a 3-day official visit.

Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe invited Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to visit Japan when they met at Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Vientianne, Laos last month.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said that there are 12 business-to-business deals to be signed during this 3-day official visit of the president in Japan. There are 200 businessmen included in his business delegation in this visit.

He also said that the business agreements to be signed between Philippines and Japan is worth 2 billion particularly in manufacturing and agriculture sectors.

In this visit, Pres. Duterte is hoping to come home with a stronger ties of Philippines and Japan. He also described his visit in Japan as "defining moment for the solid and strategic partnership of the two countries".

"The visit will be an opportunity to me to personally thank Japan for its prominent and fearless role as the Philippines' development partner", Pres. Duterte said.

Pres. Duterte also said that there are many to be discussed among others are greater political, social and defense cooperation particularly maritime domain awareness and maritime security.

He also said that he would like to encourage huge businessmen in Japan to invest in the Philippines.

"I shall seek the strengthening of this role to a more high-impact project that will benefit our nation", Pres. Duterte said
